While their given name is Brooke, they love to be called B! With a fierce heart for collective liberation, B's work is guided by a profound commitment to wholeness, justice, and dignity for all life. Deeply believing in the power of healing, B accompanies those they work with on the path to restoring agency, choice, and connection. Through body-based, somatic work, they support clients in identifying what truly matters to them, gaining practicable skills to help align actions with values on both an individual and collective level.
B's long experience inside of social justice movement offers a grounded and embodied understanding of trauma and oppression, including how our current and historical social context shapes what is possible in our lives. B fiercely contends that an embodied trauma analysis and practice are an essential piece of dismantling racial capitalism.
Inside of the large umbrella of politicized healing that serves movement, B is most excited about working at the intersections of gender, and body image/dysphoria. They 100% believe that disordered eating is a social justice issue. They understand how our relationships with our bodies are shaped by racial capitalism and our orientation to food and our body can be some of the smartest ways we know how to survive inside of our experiences of trauma and oppression. B acknowledges the deep toll this can take on our abilities to unite our actions with our values. Working from a Health at Every Size perspective, B guides those they work with to transform their body story towards more aliveness and more choice.
B is mixed race with black and white ancestry. They identify as queer, femme, and nonbinary. They understand the complexities of identity and both the resilience and belonging that can be accessed through the affirmation of who we are, and the limitations that identity places on all that's possible for our collective liberation. B works to embody an abolitionist politic and practice in regards to race and gender, acknowledging that the fixed identities that order our lives will only be undone when capitalism no longer exists.
When B is not doing healing work, they love to move their body in ways that bring them joy. They train in Muay Thai and Western boxing. Much of their time is spent nerding out on astrology and all the political economic theory and social justice movement analysis and history they can get their hands on. The close people in their life know that their greatest fear is not having time to read all of their books in this lifetime. They love cats, and bees, and pigs. The Puget Sound is their #1 source of resilience.
Credentials and Education: B is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Certified Nutritionist (CN) in the state of Washington. They hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Evergreen State College and a Masters of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology from Bastyr University. B pays great respects to their teachers across many lineages including Generative Somatics, social movements in the so-called u.s. and internationally, especially the traditions of Black Liberation, Western psychotherapy, astrology, and mindfulness practices. B has been training with Generative Somatics since 2010 and also has trained in other somatic methodologies such as EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Brooke has trained directly with Lindo Bacon in the Health at Every Size approach and is currently in the process of becoming a Body TrustⓇ Provider with Be Nourished.
